THANKS, LARRY.

Here’s what I do when I’m feeling bummed out about my career and honestly terrified that I’m never gonna work again: I retreat to my parents’ house (as I did today [July2, actually]) and tell ‘em how I’m feeling so they can make me feel better, which they always do.  Food helps.  And a nap.  I could feel it getting hot at 10:30 and decided “I don’t wanna be here” so I paid my rent and drove down to take a nap at my mom and dad’s.  How many hours of The First 48 did we watch?  We watched a Hawaii episode of Lawrence Welk.  He had the whole band in Honolulu and I have to watch how much laughing I do while Welk is on because my dad really loves it.  But there was one part where Larry W. introduces this one singer and instead of her standing near the band to sing her song, they show her on a balcony, overlooking the band and the audience from a near-by hotel.  I was like: “Is she being held prisoner?  Why do they have her kept away up in a room away from the show?”  She starts singing her song on the balcony and the view of the beach and the hills beyond is pretty of course.  I don’t know what song she’s singing, probably something called “Sandy Shells and Fruity Times” or something island-y like that.  But then, she walks into her 1968 hotel room, and there’s no one but her there.  Here’s this big band and show going on down below, and she’s forced to smile and sing this luau-type song by herself in her room.  Then she ends the song back on the balcony looking down at the party she has clearly not been invited to.  I could not stop laughing.  The Lawrence Welk Show is some funny-ass stuff.  And I felt better and less frightened, I tell ya that.

I remain
